On this day, 24 February 1864, Rebecca Lee Crumpler became the first African-American formally-trained doctor. Rebecca Lee Crumpler became a physician one year before the practice of slavery was abolished in The United States of America.

On this day, 24 February 1957, the Cheikh Anta Diop University, formerly known as the University of Dakar was established in Senegal’s capital.

 

THe International open of MaCaal

On this day, 24 February 2018, the Museum of African Contemporary Art Al Maaden (MACAAL), internationally opened its doors to the public. The Museum is located in Marrakech, Morocco. MACAAL is dedicated to showcasing art from all around the continent of Africa.
