Today in History Africa 18 January

Today is Museum Selfie Day! This holiday is celebrated every year on the third Wednesday of January. It is a day where people around the world take selfies at the museum.

A Museum is a place where artefacts and other objects are exhibited for the public. All sorts of objects are exhibited in museum. Usually museums display artistic and historical artefacts while others may have objects of cultural or scientific importance. Museums are an important part of culture as they are filled with visual information related to a particular interest of people.

The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities is a prodigious museum. The Museum is located in Cairo the capital of Egypt. It was opened on 15 November 1902; 121 years ago! It is mostly filled with ancient artefacts and object from various periods of Egypts long and rich history. For example, The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities has several mummies on display. Many more interesting objects are exhibited in the museum like coffins belonging to ancient royalty, and great statues made of gold.
